Book Tip No. 56 (2022): VINCE EBERT: RAY OF HOPE INSTEAD OF BLACKOUT
8th edition Munich 2022
By Hans-Christian Riekhof
When a studied physicist, who is also a successful cabaret artist and best-selling author, turns to the topic of world improvement, one can assume that it is linguistically entertaining, sometimes sharp-tongued and often pointed. And that it is about scientifically founded statements.
These expectations are fully met by Vince Ebert. His concern: to save us from a few important misconceptions and to warn us of some myths. For example, that the condition of our planet will deteriorate severely in the coming years and that science would be able to give us clear recommendations (only politics can do that).
Vince Ebert warns us of false evaluations of some risks that are coming to us and our planet, he sees irrational arguments in many fields of public debate. His recommendation: more openness to technology, more pragmatism and practical experimentation, more optimism with regard to future, completely new solutions to our problems. Not everyone will like this. But that cannot be a criterion in important social debates.
