Book Tip No. 57 (2022): WOO-KYOUNG AHN: CLEAR THINKING. A GUIDE.

Hamburg 2022

By Hans-Christian Riekhof

Just published in German translation is the book by US-American psychology professor Woo-Kyoung Ahn on the topic of “Clear Thinking”. The subtitle reveals it: it’s about a guide – we need tutoring in the appropriate use of our thinking apparatus. A fascinating topic. Gerald Hüther had already written a “Operating Instructions for a Human Brain” a few years ago, a highly recommended little book.

And now another book on the topic? We have already read most of this topic area elsewhere, for example on confirmation error, negativity bias or preference for immediate gratifications. Authors like Richard Thaler, Daniel Kahneman or Dan Ariely have presented important works on this.

Woo-Kyoung Ahn’s main concern is to compile the most important findings of Behavioral Economics in an easily understandable way and with concrete examples on 260 pages. She has succeeded in doing this. Whether the book is really “groundbreaking”, as the advertising text on the back claims – well, it’s just an advertising text.
