History books are sometimes boring and written overloaded with little relevant details. Harari’s “Story of Tomorrow” is a commendable exception. He manages to span a bow from the Anthropocene to the data religions of Silicon Valley on just over 500 pages. He writes a history of mankind that tries to explain what meaning-making looks like in a society shaped by traditional religions and how this task could be perceived in a modern society dominated by digital technologies.

Homo Deus – the divine man – raises the question of the organization and responsibility for meaning-making in future societies. A truly significant and fundamental question, the answer to which, in his estimation, should not be left to the techno-religions. Harari writes very vividly, his poignant examples from real life are a real joy, and at the same time he manages to reflect questions of human history that need to be answered in the face of rapid technological developments. Extremely worth reading.
