“The sales opportunities that arise when retailers personalize even more are shown by two numbers. Today, only six percent of all online shoppers click on product recommendations. But this already generates 37 percent of sales. If the recommendations could be played out more targeted in the future, consumers would have to be lured to buy with less discounts. Because the biggest problem of the industry is: If the discounts get out of hand, customers expect permanently low prices. This sets a spiral in motion, as a result of which ever higher discounts have to be advertised in order to attract the attention of customers at all.”
