“The political debate about how digitization becomes a societal success is just beginning – some thoughts on this: First, we need algorithmic decisions that can be verified by independent third parties. A leaflet on the mode of action of algorithms would not only serve transparency, but also sensitize each individual to possible pitfalls and dangers.
Secondly, the state must create a competitive framework that ensures the diversity of algorithmic systems. It must intervene if necessary and check and enforce standards for algorithms. Here, a kind of Tüv would make sense. Thirdly, we need a professional ethic. Everyone involved in the development of socially relevant algorithms must reflect on the consequences of their work and ask normative questions.”
