Martin and Sonja Stuchtey on Natural Capital Markets
Can ecosystems be saved by natural capital markets?
Today’s auditors’ reports do not include the ecological and ultimately also economic risks that can be caused by the failure of ecosystems. Martin and Sonja Stuchtey propose creating markets for investments in natural capital to correct the misvaluation of nature in our balance sheets – a very thoughtful approach:
“The markets for investment in natural capital must reliably measure the results of the measures and bring them result-oriented into reliably designed contracts between conservationists and companies, which are also compatible with accounting standards. This solution opens up the opportunity to correct the current fundamental mis- and non-valuation of nature in our accounting system. The goal is to transform this grotesque misjudgment into an investment opportunity that secures future global prosperity.”
