Mariana Mazzucato and Rosie Collington on conflicts of interest in the awarding of government contracts to large consulting firms
“The large consulting firms, which are closely involved in important political and business decision-making processes, are often themselves subject to enormous conflicts of interest. A particular client rarely has access to information about the other clients of a consulting firm and does not suspect when it is playing a double game. For example, when it comes to climate issues, large consulting firms simultaneously advise governments whose populations want lower emissions, and fossil fuel industry companies that contribute most to the climate crisis.”
