Their view is too narrow. They do not notice how the technological world around them is changing – and become vulnerable to attacks by new competitors. (…) Even before the (Corona) crisis, China was working to change the world economy. As part of the Silk Road Initiative, the country had exported its digital surveillance systems to numerous emerging countries such as Vietnam and the Philippines. China had begun to divide the world into countries that cooperate with the Chinese – and use a similar digital surveillance infrastructure – and the rest of the world.
